GiRls’ DAY 2019 - Do you already know what you want to be one day?

Following the motto "Experience exciting professions up close", akzente Salzburg organized this year once again the cross-border girls' action day with the title "GiRls' DAY".

On this day, girls between the ages of 10 and 16 have the unique opportunity to spend a day immersed in technical, craft, industrial and scientific occupations.

Anna Weitgasser is pretty sure. She wants to work in the IT world.

Anna Weitgasser, 12 years old, is a lively girl with many interests and used the action day to accompany her dad in his work at SPAR ICS.

Currently Anna is attending the 3rd class of the new secondary school Eugendorf with focus on computer science.

She plays tennis and guitar, loves to dance Zumba, loves to bake and shares her love for pets with her younger sister. Together they have two guinea pigs and a cat.

She can already type on the keyboard with ten fingers and has already successfully passed two of the seven ECDL examinations (European Computer Driving Licence). She inherited her interest in IT from her dad.

From software developer to department manager.

Mario Weitgasser has been with SPAR ICS since 2005 and can look back on an exciting and very varied IT career from software developer to department manager. Currently he supports the young department Digital Platform where he is responsible for technical solutions and architectures for online shops, websites and mobile apps in an agile environment.

At the beginning of his SPAR ICS career, Mario Weitgasser developed solutions for SPAR's own store merchandise management. He also realized applications in the area of cash registers and scales which were directly 'tangible' for the customer in the SPAR stores. He proudly explained to his daughter Anna which solutions he was involved in. This is how he sparked Anna's enthusiasm for the IT world.

When Anna goes shopping today, she observes the IT-supported processes in the store with curiosity. She continues to be particularly fascinated by the cashier and the weighing of articles.

Not least for this reason Anna wanted to use Girls' Day to accompany her dad to work and take a look behind the scenes of the IT world at SPAR ICS.

After a warm welcome with cocoa and a short presentation about the SPAR ICS, Anna was allowed to sniff around in different departments.

For example, she was shown how to create and update website content, how to place orders with mobile Android devices in the SPAR branches and how to handle projects.

Anna's highlight: a visit to the store test room

Anna's highlight in the entertaining program, however, was definitely a visit to the company's own branch test room, where a wide variety of POS and scale systems are set up for testing purposes. There Anna was able to test various branch processes on 'real' devices and had a lot of fun.

Anna's visit was also very refreshing for the SPAR ICS colleagues who jokingly asked if she was the new intern and played a round at the table soccer with her.
