On April 3rd 2019 took place the annual visit of the SPAR branch in Marchtrenk, the REGIO coffee roasting and tea packaging plant as well as the central warehouse in Wels.
Admittedly, the annual tour is not for morning grouches.
The SPAR ICS employees were already ready at 07:00 a.m. to appeal for the departure from Salzburg to Upper Austria, but they were rewarded with an absolutely exciting day.
After visiting the Regio roasting and tea packaging plant, during which the ICS employees were able to learn all the secrets of coffee roasting, they moved to the SPAR branch in Marchtrenk, where they were guided through all storage areas. From dry goods to returnable. They were particularly impressed by the picking performance of the warehouse staff.
After lunch in Marchtrenk, they drove to the nearby SPAR central warehouse in Wels. That was a real highlight for everyone.
The ICS colleagues were able to visit the heart of the central warehouse - the fully automatic OPM (Order Picking Machinery) warehouse and picking system.
This order picking system is unique in the Austrian food retail branch. It removes packs fully automatically from delivered pallets, stores them and puts them together on roll containers when a store orders them. What is special here is that the system calculates a perfect finishing pattern for each roll container and then commissions it itself.
A thoroughly successful inspection, during which the ICS Newbies have the opportunity to better understand the core business of the SPAR retail group.
