On April 23rd, we once again welcomed 13 girls to our Salzburg office for this year’s IT Girls’ Day. Under the motto: "Become an IT girl and code your own website!”, the participants aged between 10 and 18 gained first-hand IT experience.
The day started with a guided tour of the SPAR ICS office in Salzburg, offering insights into the technical environment behind SPAR’s digital retail solutions. Participants visited the in-house media studio, tried their initial experience at live recordings and visited the checkout technology test room, a key area where innovative systems are developed and tested for use in SPAR stores throughout Austria.
Our IT employees shared insights into their daily work and demonstrated how diverse IT roles at SPAR ICS are. In cooperation with HACKER SCHOOL, they guided the participants through the basics of web development using HTML and CSS, and how AI can support the construction of a website. The creative highlight of the day: each participant built and designed their own website, applying newly acquired knowledge.
With initiatives such as IT Girls’ Day, we aim to promote digital skills at an early stage and encourages young women to consider a career in IT.
At the end of the day, 13 girls went home with new technical skills, fresh inspirations of the IT world and the first version of their very own website.
